Roughing gouge alternative for platters and bowls

I think you all know how often we get questions about catches with the roughing gouge. People try to use them to rough out bowls and platters. Yes I know it can be done by skilled turners. I've done it just to show it can be done. However I will stand by my assertion that it's dangerous for beginners and there are safer ways. So I made this video to show how I would do it using a bowl gouge and a couple of spindle gouges.
