I ended up going with the Record Power Envoy. It finally arrived today. I cleaned up the shop Friday. I will probably never see it this clean again. It came packaged very good. I had to remove the headstock, banjo and tail stock to make it light enough to put together by myself. Heavy and very sturdy. The fit and finish is very nice. The headstock, tail stock and banjo all lock up very tight and easy. On my old Rikon I could never get the tail stock to lock up tight. Alignment for the headstock and tail stock was very easy, took under one minute. The belt was on the center set of pulleys so I left it there. I get 450 to 1750 on the center set. At 450 you can’t hear it run. I really like the pendant controller. I am very happy with what I see so far. I will update with more info as I start to turn on it.

Nice looking machine, Rusty.

Is the lathe manufactured in England, or elsewhere?

Good buy! Now to cover it with chips, shavings and sawdust.
I have a Rikon lathe. Took the banjo off and tightened the nut to snug it a bit. Never was a real problem but did it while cleaning it.

Yes it is made somewhere in the UK.

I tried that too. Just seemed like the washer that gets pulled up against the bottom is too small.

Congrats.

If I may ask, what size is your shop? I'm moving into a smaller space soon. And why did you put the lathe on a sheet of plywood and not directly on the floor?

my shop is 12’ by 24’. It is one of those premade buildings. The floor is just plywood so I added another piece just to stiffen the floor up a little more. With the lathe weighing over 300 pounds I wanted it to be a little more solid.

Panning for Montana gold, with Betsy, the mule!
One thing that seems very noticeable with these recent Record Power lathes, is the machined top surface of the bedways look to have a more surface area than just about any other lathe I'm aware of. This may be a factor in stability when rotating the headstock, I think. (Probably a good thing for the banjo, as well! ;))

As many turners know, the amount of detectible vibration is directly related to the quality of the cut......even small amounts can, and do have their effects.

That Record Power Regent still has my attention! :D

If I may...what is the measurement from spindle center to base where you install legs? Thanks.
It is 8” from center to the top of the bed. It is 42” from center to the floor. There are adjustable feet on the bottom. They could be removed and lower the lathe 1” to 1.5” or you could raise the lathe even higher. If you would like exact measurements let me know and I will be happy to get them. Also the bed and legs are 42” long and the legs are 20” deep.
