Last month, David showed his log holder during his AAW Masters of Woodturning series. I'm in need of building one, and I just checked David's site, he hasn't posted anything about it yet. He mentioned during the live stream what club had posted it on their site. Does anybody remember what he said? Aloha from Maui

I recently built one from the plans available on the Minnesota Woodturn's site: http://mnwoodturners.com/mwa-chapte...cessing-center-lpc-kit-assembly-instructions/
There is a related article on lumber jocks: https://www.lumberjocks.com/projects/249746. I made mine a little larger - I wish I hadn't - it seems to be too large and unlikely to be able to handle logs any larger than the original. Additionally, the posted versions have a much steeper/deeper trough than David's, which seems more practical.

I use an old Black and Decker workmate with a 2"x8" in the jaws as sacrificial wood under the cut. Cheap (I already had one), folds up and stores easily, solid enough to handle anything I can lift onto it. There are extensions on the bottom of the legs to make it taller. I keep them closed (in the shorter position), keeps it closer to the ground so easier to load, and more solid. Biggest downside is that you have to use wedges to keep the log positioned (keep it from rolling).

Not what you asked for, but another option to consider.

Another nod to the MWA. Here's the one I built with my friend Chuck back in 2004 when we were members of the MN Woodturner's Association, found on pages 5-6 of the Oct 2004 club newsletter. (I was a mere 35yo youngster in those pics.) It is more of a sawhorse design that we found on the 'net way back then. It still lives in my back yard to this day. Those recycled redwood 4x4 fence posts from Chuck's garden fence just refuse to rot. And that Stihl saw still roars to life with just a couple pulls. Build and use this one, or any other design, at your own risk! Proper chain sawing protocols shall prevail.

Perusing those old newsletters sure brings back some good memories...

My pleasure Emiliano. I also admired it when I saw it. Hence the screenshot. It looks more useful than what I’ve got, which my wife thinks looks like some kind of torture device. She asks me to keep it covered so neighbors won’t get wrong ideas!

After his demo, David said he had someone working on the CAD drawings for his stand, and I was on his list when they are complete. Haven't heard anything since.
