Coming to Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle will be a new AAW affiliated woodturning club.

Wiregrass Woodturners Association is a wood turning club for men, women and young adults of all skill levels interested in the art of woodturning. At each monthly meeting there will be technical demos and discussions on subjects ranging from safety to tool sharpening and project design to applying a finish to your new woodturning. You will also learn from other club members during our “show and tell†session where we bring finished projects and tell how we made them.

The first meeting will be Saturday October 6, 2007 at 9 am. For directions or more information, contact Bill Nichols at wiregrasswoodturners@graceba.net

Your club's future?

Your club will not have much of a future if you don't encourage the kids too.

Our club has a girl member that has been turning for at least two years. She is only eight years old. Rebecca turns excellent bowls!

Thanks for the encouragement. Bill deserves a lot of credit for starting this down the right road. We're hoping this announcement catches the eye of anyone in our area that might not have joined AAW yet or is just interested in Turning. We are roughly 100 miles from any other club so maybe we can serve some folks that thought that a club was just too far away.

Good luck. be patient

Clubs often take a few meetings to really take off.

the word will spread. use your first meetings to think of ways to spread the word about the next meeting.

Most news papers have space for club announcements.

Grocery stores have a spots to some let you tape a poster on the window by the door. Lumber stores often have bulletin boards.

Carving clubs and woodworking clubs may give you a couple of lines in their newsletters and announce your meeting during theirs.

Happy Turning,
AL

As a long time member of the Emerald Coast Woodeturners Guild, right down the road in Freeport, Florida, it's good to have a new neighboring AAW chapter. We are probably the closest AAW chapter to you. To be honest I live about an hour away from where we met and may actually be closer to you so I may try to catch a future meeting. Hopefully we can share demos and swap other info like we already do with the Pensacola AAW chapter.

Good luck with the chapter and stay in touch!:cool2:
