Since I began listing about this last week I've fielded lots of inquiries and (as of April 9 2020) eight clubs have reported holding full club meetings using the Zoom platform. Really helps to know we are not alone, and where we might turn for advice! Virtual clubs not on this list please let me know, and/or tell Linda Ferber at the AAW office. Thanks! The eight are:

First State Woodturners, New Castle DE, firststatewoodturners.org

Lancaster Area Woodturners, Lancaster PA, lancasterareawoodturners.org

Magnolia Woodturners, Jackson MS, mwt.clubexpress.com

New Jersey Woodturners, Roseland NJ, njwoodturners.com

Susquehanna Woodturners, Harrisburg PA, susquehannawoodturners.org

Tennessee Association of Woodturners, Nashville TN, tnwoodturners.org

Woodturners of Southwest Missouri, Springfield MO, WoodturnersofSWMo.org

Woodturners of the Virginias, Mount Jackson VA, woodturnersofthevirginias.org

Hi John,
You can add Lighthouse Woodturners in Biloxi, MS to your list. We had our first virtual meeting that included show and tell. 18 members signed on versus an average of 25 for our face-to-face meetings, so we were very pleased with the turnout.
Thanks for your inspiration and guidance.
Jon

The Woodturners of North Texas made a couple practice runs earlier in the week and then had a full up regular club meeting yesterday. We had about 65 members participating and things went smoothly.

Baltimore Area Turners (BAT) have held two Zoom meetings in the last month. One was a show & tell of member's projects and the last was a virtual social one.

The Golden Horseshoe Woodturners Guild in Burlington, Ontario has had a couple of Zoom meetings. First one was a freebie intro that cut out at 40 minutes and the guild now has a subscription. We had a second meeting the afternoon of May 31. I did a 30 minute intro to use of vacuum and Peter Morill went through his epoxy technique on beer goblets. I discovered how much work it is to produce 30 minutes of content. Put together a Power Point of about 15 slides and used Zoom sharing and then a few minutes using my iPad for video showing basic setup on the lathe with no turning. I signed in on two devices and used the iPad for audio while doing the PPT and then signed the PC out and used only iPad. Was fun! Our AGM is coming next week. Should be interesting.

The Greater Vancouver Woodturners Guild has held two monthly meeting via Zoom which have been quite successful. The last meeting included a pre-meeting Focus On Fundamentals presentation from one person's shot followed by a short business meeting and then a main presentation from another member's shop. Our third Zoom meeting will be on June 25th.

Association of Revolutionary Turners (north Boston) meets the third Thursday of the month on Zoom (and has decided to continue with a Zoom option even after physical meeting resume); Central New England Woodturners meets the first Thursday of the month.

Both groups are doing live remote demos as well as more traditional meetings.

The Midland (MI) Woodworkers' Association held it's April and May meetings using Zoom. We're a general purpose woodworking club, so majority of the members are flat workers, but there are a number of turners in the group. We were fortunate to have a free, IRD style demo of the Shaper Origin hand held CNC machine by a factory rep from California at our April meeting. Our May meeting featured a talk on the Science and Technology of wood done by the tech service manager of Franklin Adhesives (makers of Titebond glue among other things).

The wood turning community seems to be way ahead of the general purpose woodworkers when it comes to remote demos. I've twice attempted to reach other general purpose woodworking clubs to discuss remote demos by posting on SMC forums but have gotten no responses.

Flat woodworking is a hobby, but woodturning is a passion.
