Twisted stem goblets

Just having fun re learning to do twists. I'm doing a demo for our club and haven't done any twisted pieces in a while. I also got a new drill bit that makes it possible. I used an aircraft drill.
Nice looking goblets John. I made a set for my son a couple years ago. I used my Sorby spiraling tool for the twist. Since you mentioned a aircraft drill bit I’m thinking you did it differently. Care to explain?

@john lucas yep that’s how I thought. I’ve been wondering if that process would work. What did you use to glue the dowel inside. Thanks for the response. One more question, where did you source the drill bit?

Paul

The year that the Symposium was in Tacoma WA I went and before I left the area I went to Boeing Surplus because Allen Lacer had told me they had Gun drills however I didn't find them, but when I returned the lathe that I had transported to and from Allan paid me with three of them. It was obvious that he knew who to ask.
When I get out to the shop I will photograph them along with the holder I made for them.

I found this on one EBAY. I just used a clear epoxy. Unfortunately I noticed only when I was buffing the pieces that I didn't sand all the way through the epoxy on every spot. Probably no one else will notice but there is a discoloration where the epoxy is still covering the maple. Next time I will look more closely. Will also pay more attention to shaping the walnut spirals. I may need a different file.
