Crack in a burl

When I started turning I remember thinking cracks are bad. That They are dangerous and look ugly. As I’ve improved in style and skill I have learned that cracks can actually improve a piece. This platter is 12.5” wide and is made from York Gum Burl from Australia. It has some amazing character with the figure and the cracks.
