Spiral Cherry

Spiral Cherry

This 5-inch tall vase was turned off-center from a block of Cherry. A 3-point, multi-axis approach was used to generate the three-sided twist. Upper surfaces were carved to give the opening an organic feel and the sides were textured and stained black to contrast with the beauty of the cherry wood. Finish is Watco oil buffed on the Beall system.
Thanks Dan, the black was done with black permanent marker pens. A fine point one for the detail areas next to the border and a broader tip for the middle areas. It was done on the bare wood prior to adding a finish. The marker pens provide solid color that penetrates well. The only caution is to be careful where it is applied.
