Yarn Bowl -Black Cherry

My wife has been on a crochet adventure for the last few months, and she added this item to my "Honey-do" list. Notice the very large yarn on the project shown here that she has in progress. She wanted a fairly large yarn bowl to accommodate this yarn.
It is black cherry wood, 9.75" diameter, and has a high gloss finish on it. A neighbor was over yesterday, and as we were talking, he said "I wish I had $500 on me,cause I would take that home." I told him, that one wasn't for sale as it belongs to my wife, but I'd be glad to make him one for $200. He was really taken with the grain in this bowl.

Rather elegant and an item that would be functional. I would sell the wife's for $500, split it with her and make her another one.;)

John, that wouldn't work with her...she's been waiting for months for this one, and it might be months before I could get to make another; and well some things are just more important than money! :rolleyes:

I used a fine tooth jig saw blade while having the spindle locked in place to give me the best positioning to do the cut. I sketched out the slot by hand, trying to get a solid and beefy amount of the wall, and put the curl near the bottom of the slot to give the most support against pulling the yarn. The shape was refined until I got the shape I wanted on the cut out.

Excellent - thanks Roger - Just curious, how do you hold/house the jig saw blade ?

In the jig saw itself. One does have to be confident in their motor skills, and make sure in advance they have no obstructions when turning the saw to make the curve. The blade I use is considered a fine tooth scroll blade, which is narrow with 21 tpi.
