Bowl of Autumn Leaves

Bowl of Autumn Leaves

This block of Ambrosia Maple 'spoke' of autumn leaves, well along in their process of spalting and returning to the soil. To create the leaves I turned a half-twist bowl (round on the bottom and multi-axis on the top) and then carved the twisted section into a sequence of leaves. The beautiful grain emerged as I applied a Watco oil finish (the finish is always my favorite part of the process...). Diameter is 5 1/2 inches and height is 5 inches.
Thanks Martin, but as is most often the case, the wood (and its interesting grain patterns) is the real 'master'
