This was my first go with a Banksia Pod. I’ve always found them interesting...and a little creepy. Since I was a retail florist for 24 years, finding out this is just the remains of a Protea made it easy. Very dusty/fuzzy to work with and the outer layers are weird. Discovered the core is fairly strong and solid. Was able to hold on a tenon to hollow it out. Final is Poplar and sprayed with Chestnut Ebonizing Lacquer. I do like the results of that. Overall height is 5 inches and vessel heigh itself is 2 1/4 inches. Finished on the Beall buffing system. Didn’t want to be cleaning paste products out of all the openings...
