Starting in open segmented turning and was wondering what the preferred software is for designing bowls. Seems to me that the Woodturner Pro and associated Lamination Pro are very popular but I am wondering about the learning curve.

Any suggestions will be looked into thoroughly. Many thanks in advance.

Have the software you talk about not a huge learning curve I can do most things with it and I am not means an expert on the computer. There are a lot of tutorials to watch which are helpful.Segment Program Planner is another option to look at.

I have Segmented Project Planner. The latest update was 9/4/20. Unless it has changed (I got it ~ 8 yrs ago) it has a very dated look but works very well. As with any software you have to figure out the idiosyncrasies of it. A trial version can be downloaded for free to see how you like it. Never did any open work but I think that is one of the design choices. https://www.segmentedturning.com/

I use Woodturner Pro and Segment Pro ... I have tried others, but keep coming back to Lloyd Johnson's software.
