If you were in the military, the upper grades carried one. The CO of our training company had one that folded up and looked like a 50 cal. chromed cartridge. Looking to make one smaller and two piece to fit into a tool box. Would like a male/female threaded system. Brass would look good. Your help is appreciated.

At my age, my "swagger stick" is a telescoping walking cane. Does that count? Swagger is a word that hasn't been used to describe my locomotion in many years. Are you sure that your wife didn't suggest that you ought to slouch on down to Walmart and get a cane?

Texas Knife had a coupler but would have to counter-drill both parts plus were too big for what I'm doing. Thanks.

Looking to make something about 18 inches long and two pieces. OK, I'm an archery coach for two schools. As a Hunter Education instructor, we are taught not to touch a student. The SS will allow me to correct an archer without personally touching them.
Pool cue would be too big.

Drill and tap a hole in one piece for a standard 1/4/ 20 threaded insert, usually 3/8 outside. and drill and tap a 1/4 20 thread in the other and thread in and glue a long 1/4 20 set screw??. All available at any Ace hardware or Home Depot.

If you can overlook a few spelling and grammar faux pas, this is something to consider: push button ratchet joint from Rock West composites. The only potential downside is that the spindle diameter needs to be ⅝" to fit into the holes. Epoxy glue might work better than a roll pin or dowel in the through holes unless you are using really hard wood.

5/8 might be doable. Looked at the ruler and not as big as I thought. Would make it from oak dowel. Pivoting would make it a bit longer than I planned but would be good to position feet, arms, etc. Thanks, Bill.

I looked at the site Bill provided the link to and they have units for .8" diameter and .88 diameter (7/8" = .875).

The one pictured is 0.63" which is just 0.005" over ⅝". Seven eighths inches diameter would command a lot more swagger. :D

I I received a Grab It grabbing tool for Christmas (you know that you're a senior when that is the kind of gifts you get). It has a plastic locking hinge in the middle with three positions (0°, 90°, and 180°). The locking hinge worked a few times and then it became a loose floppy hinge. The good news is that the LED and magnet still work.

Perhaps a cattle prod? Or you could hire an "assistant"...

"Hey Vinnie, go "correct" that guy for me will ya?"

glad I could help. :-D

Ok fun is over :D. Now look at the joint on a mic stand and you will see a type of jooint similar to a bridal joint. Now make that joint and use a knurled knob to hold it in position , straight. I would draw this out , ok maybe I can and add a photo.

How about "bridle" joint instead?

I like Mark's solution to outsource the "hands on" education. A switch from the peach tree was a good learning aid when I was a kid.

Interesting ideas so far. I thought of a disappearing magicians wand but couldn't google the right string of words, then I thought of my tent poles, about 3/8th inch aluminum and held together with a bungee cord. Grab one end and shake and it pops together. But I think the easiest is Mikes idea of using the broadhead adapter. I bet you have the parts and pieces already...

What a terrible time to be a nice, helpful, caring older man. We are automatically presumed to be a pedophile or dirty old man. We have been understandably been sacrificed for the safety of our children and grandchildren.

Dean, along those lines- my wife was the director of our church daycare for about 10 years. They installed cameras in the rooms and hallways because of that very reason. Heard of a pastor who was contacted by a child's mother, claiming the child had been abused. The pastor got the dates, etc., and stated they would review the videos. Never heard from the mother again. We built a new church 10 years ago and the place is saturated with security cameras.
