I turn a lot of green wood so my lathe gets filthy. I let it go for quite a while but when it's time it's time. I use Klean strip green/natural mineral spirits. It looks like milk but for some reason works great on green wood gunk on bandsaw blades, bearings and other parts. Seems to just dissolve it easily. Much better than anything else I've tried and easy to clean up, no fumes, etc. Here are a couple of before and after pics. I started on the leg. It was as dirty as the rest of it. Only a few minutes work so far. One pass, easy quick scrub with a grey 3M pad and it's clean.
